Stellantis wants to become a carbon-neutral company by 2038, and to do so regularly invests in the circular economy. In this context, the automotive group joined forces with the equipment manufacturer Valeoproduce equipment restored in Francein its “Circular Electronics Lab”: a laboratory dedicated to recycling, inaugurated in 2022 in Nevers, Burgundy-Franche-Comté.

There converted is a standardized industrial process that extends the life of a used product by restoring its original functions and performance. This is an even more rigorous process than reconditioning, allowing us to offer a warranty similar to that of new parts.

A more environmentally friendly refurbished camera

Valeo has partnered with Stellantis to launch a restored camera, which allows using up to 99% less natural resources, compared to the new part. Installed in the upper part of the windshield of the group’s models, it is an important element of modern driver assistance systems. This remanufactured camera offers the same performance as a new part and is two years warranty : Stellantis will be the first car manufacturer to benefit from this product in its aftermarket catalog.

To support its remanufactured spare parts, Stellantis also launched a durable packaging, which contains recycled materials and can be reused. In line with future European regulations, Valeo has not used single-use plastic, and is also the first supplier to integrate the new safety labels from SUSTAINera.

THE SUSTAINera spare parts from Stellantis, created as a result of the circular economy, allow up to 80% reduction in raw materials and 50% CO2 emissions compared to equivalent new parts.

Boom of restored auto parts

Valeo specializes in mechanical rebuilds including starters, alternators, dual mass flywheels, brake calipers, torque converters, heavy duty clutches, A/C compressors and even dual wet clutches. Every year, Valeo recycles a million productsand wants to double this volume by 2030.

In the house of Stellantisit is already more than 13,000 links to remanufactured auto parts which we find within SUSTAINera label : in addition to the new rebuilt cam, there are starters, alternators, clutches, turbochargers, injectors, brake calipers, electronic control modules, control units, multimedia systems, SCR tanks, transmissions, motors and even high-voltage batteries for electric vehicles.
