Here is a model that makes the Fiat Multipla look like a beauty queen. Far be it from us to mock this machine, but we still have to admit that its design is special, to say the least.
Here is “Avtotor Yantar”, one of the first Russian electric cars, and not the first, since this privilege is reserved for the Zetta Electric.
It’s not Tesla who wants to
Historically, the Avtotor plant was known for assembling European cars in Russia, producing models for brands such as BMW and Hyundai until the upheaval caused by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in February 2022.
Further international sanctions led to the shutdown of the Avtotor plant, which opened a new era for the Russian automotive industry. And what a way.
The Moscow Polytechnic Institute took the initiative to transform the plant into a center for the development of electric vehicles. The flagship project “Avtotor Yantar” is based on a modular platform that offers “flexibility of design and adaptability to changing market needs”.
Director of the Moscow Polytechnic Institute, Volodymyr Miklushevsky, emphasized that the Avtotor Yantar project is not limited to the production of electric cars, but will also become a platform for training future Russian automobile engineers.
Common basis for four products
The Moscow Polytechnic Institute presented four prototypes of electric vehicles, including a quad bike, van, van and the central part – Avtotor Yantar.
At this point, we still don’t know the technical details of this model, if any, but obviously it’s hard to imagine this car with downhill autonomy and a level of comfort and safety that meets European standards.
Preliminary production is planned to begin in 2024 mass production is planned for 2025. Something tells us that we are not necessarily waiting for it. In general, this car, if it sees the light of day, will definitely never come to our country.
