As in France, Germany still introduced assistance for the purchase of electric cars. This system, launched in 2016, was very similar to ours: 4500 euros were paid by the state for the purchase of a sold electric vehicle (battery or hydrogen). less than 40,000 euros. This amount was reduced to €3,000 for a model sold between €40,000 and €65,000. A winning strategy for a country that only last year 470,502 zero-emission cars were registered, which is 132% more than in 2021 ! If we go further, in 2020 the share of electric cars in the annual registration was only 1.75%, while in 2022 it reached 17.7%! In addition to German manufacturers, sales are provided by Tesla, which has a Gigafactory in Berlin, and numerous Chinese brands.
The end of the environmental bonus in Germany
But in 2023, the German electricity market looks pretty bleak .Registrations fell 22% in November compared to last year, which is hardly more reassuring for all registrations combined, where the drop was 5.5%. The country is experiencing a serious budget crisis from November: Germany’s Constitutional Council accused Olaf Scholz’s government of financial embezzlement (up to 60 billion euros!) and ordered him to plug the budget hole. Result, On Monday, December 18, the government closed the aid tap on electric cars, depriving German buyers of thousands of euros in premiums. It’s a shame when we know it Germany is counting on 15 million electric cars on its roads in 2030 compared to a million today.
Volkswagen and Stellantis to the rescue
Is this really the end of the story? Well, no! because two car groups adjust prices prevent the precious bonus from disappearing. Volkswagen and Stellantis have just announced that they are “ready to take on a public stake”. specifically, both will pay €6,750 to each new buyer whose electric car will be delivered and registered until December 31. Then the aid will be 4,500 euros between 1Er At Stellantis – January 29 and February, at Volkswagen – until March 31. Other manufacturers may follow suit, although such a move would put them in a difficult financial position. In a rather similar context, the manufacturer Kia has announced that it is offering a discount of 5,000 euros in France on his Niro EV, which just lost its precious bonus with us. When the government stutters, manufacturers adapt…
