Range and battery charging speed are some of the real weak points of electric cars. But manufacturers have no shortage of ideas to improve these important points, as the models are capable of recharging at a record speed.

Zeekrthe Chinese electric car manufacturer and member of the Geely group, presented new battery technologies compatible with ultra-fast charging, which are characterized by high energy density and excellent safety.

New LFP battery for Zeekr 007

This new battery is equipped with lithium-iron phosphate technology (LFP), and Zeekr used its battery R&D team to get the most out of it. Thanks to the electrical architecture 800Vit is compatible with charging power up to 500 kWwhich allows you to charge the car of the brand very quickly, and restore it no less 500 kilometers of autonomy in 15 minutes. This is a record for an LFP battery: Zeekr specifies that the charging performance of its batteries in this way exceeds that of many competitors, even in cold winter temperatures.

Although LFP batteries traditionally have a lower energy density than NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) batteries at the cell level, Zeekr engineers have developed an LFP battery pack that provides high energy densitythanks to new materials and a simplified structural design, which can lead to the actual use of the battery volume to 83.7%the level is higher than that of many competitors.

Arriving in 2024 in the Zeekr range

This new technology doesn’t compromise safety: Zeekr batteries have passed six rigorous safety tests, including a puncture by the National Automotive Quality and Testing Center.

100% premium electric sedan Zikr 007 will be the first model of the brand to be equipped with these new LFP batteries, while other models in the range will follow later. The first deliveries of Zeekr 007 are expected in months January 2024.

In addition to its battery technologies, Zeekr is developing an ultra-fast charging infrastructure: at the end of November 2023, the company had 401 ultra-fast charging stations in China with more than 2,200 charging points with a capacity of 360 kW. In 2024, the network should expand to 1,000 ultra-fast charging stations and exceed the threshold 10,000 super-fast charging stations in 2026.
