At the Paris Motor Show in 2022, several players were interested in the energy of tomorrow, in particular hydrogen: this is the case of Hopium and NamX. If the former is currently experiencing difficulties in connection with the company’s announcement of bankruptcy, the latter continues its adventure, albeit with some twists and turns.
Indeed, the new Franco-Moroccan manufacturer has indeed announced what it wants abandon the idea of fuel cells for its hydrogen SUV called the HUV, and replace it with a hydrogen heat engine V8.
NamX HUV: Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine
“This strategic decision emphasizes the pragmatic approach of NamX, which puts the developed technologies at the service of its environmental obligations. NamX intends to take advantage of a reliable and functional engine with controlled production costs to make premium hydrogen mobility truly affordable. The choice of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) technology for hydrogen mobility follows the approaches taken by historical players in the automotive industry. Like other established manufacturers, NamX relies on proven technology that benefits from decades of investment and continuous improvement.explained the startup founded by Fauzi Annajah and Thomas de Lussac.
Actually, hydrogen thermal vehicles (HICEs) do not have the main disadvantages of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs): the latter require a lot of metals and rare earth elements to make them. This choice also meets the needs of NamX control your production costsprotecting itself from price fluctuations associated with the supply of rare metals.
Many benefits
Hydrogen heat engines have several advantages, such as greater strength, better durability, and compatibility with less pure and cheaper hydrogen. Choosing a heat engine also provides access to a large existing aftermarket and vehicle maintenance network for easy access easier and more economical for spare parts, compared to an electric car.
The new heat engine chosen to power the NamX HUV is a V8 that burns hydrogen, which will be developed and manufactured by Solution F, a subsidiary of the GCK Group. The Franco-Moroccan startup did not provide any additional technical information. We will remind you that in the previous version of the NamX HUV, there was a choice of two engines with a capacity of 300 and 550 horsepower, respectively, in rear and all-wheel drive.
The first deliveries to NamX HUV always meant for 2027 year.
