Before the arrival of the Renegade in 2015, the Jeep lineup until then consisted mainly of large models: Cherokee, Commander, Wrangler, Patriot, etc. Compass, which appeared in 2006, was the first European “small jeep”. The Renegade continued that momentum and offered the American brand the right to do so sit on the B segment, one of the most promising in Europe. He participated in Jeep’s success on the Old Continent with passion small, compact and urban models. You only have to look at the excellent sales numbers to see that: 53,940 units sold in the first year, followed by 76,203 in 2016! After a slowdown in 2017 and 2018, it suffered The peak of popularity fell in 2019, when 78,842 units were sold. Hell of a mark for a model that had everything to prove when it launched.
The arrival of the Avenger didn’t help
But after Covid and 2019 the last normal year, its sales have fallen seriously ! 63,000 units were sold in Europe in 2021, and just 49,287 in 2022. Although it was still the best-selling Jeep on the continent last year, it was later overtaken by its big brother, the Compass. And vice versa, its younger brother, the Avenger, was a hit, with more than 40,000 orders registered in Europe alone ! While it was mostly praised for its electric version, it is indeed offered with a petrol engine and even a 48V hybrid! Recognized as the Car of the Year 2023, you could say it was outdated the aging Renegade in its style and services, in a format that is definitely much more family-friendly. But the decline of Renegade definitely cannot be explained by the appearance of the little Avenger.
Too timid a development?
In addition, the model from Jeep had a serious lack of updates, at least aesthetically. Of course, the restyling of 2018 increased sales in 2019, but it has already been 5 years and, lack of significant developments, Renegade is getting old. Even the Brazilian market was eligible for an upgraded version in 2022 always good from a stylistic point of view! With no facelift, the model’s future looks more than uncertain to see what Jeep is going to do to remedy the situation. In the USA and Canada, in any case, the manufacturer made a radical decision : The Renegade is going forever, it won’t be replaced in 2024. The model’s lackluster sales in those markets in recent years hastened its decline to the point that Jeep will only offer the Compass as an entry-level model. .
