Tesla: the strike that started in Sweden is now spreading to another country Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

Social protest against Tesla is growing in Sweden. Recently, this movement found an echo in Denmark, where the largest trade union 3F announced a strike in solidarity with Tesla workers in Sweden.

At first, he focused on the refusal of the American manufacturer to sign a collective agreement on labor remuneration, the strike has evolved to cover several sectors.

Chronological reminder of the facts

The conflict began on October 27, when 130 Tesla mechanics scattered across ten workshops in Sweden. It quickly gained a wider scope, involving trade unions from various sectors.

In a statement, the 3F union announced that all members of 3F Transport will be covered by the solidarity movement. Specifically, this means the refusal of dockers and truck drivers to transport cars to Sweden.

The essence of the conflict is Tesla’s failure to comply with industry collective agreements, which form the basis of the Scandinavian model of the labor market. These sectoral agreements cover almost 90% of Swedish workers and 80% of Danish workers, regulate working conditions and set minimum wages.

Tesla isn’t giving up (yet?)

However, Tesla refuses to honor these agreements. Elon Musk has consistently rejected calls to unionize his 127,000 employees around the world.

“Even if you are one of the richest companies in the world, you cannot impose your own rules. We have labor market agreements in the Northern region and you have to respect them if you want to do business here.”– says Jan Willadsen, president of 3F Transport.

Remember, however, that the battle is not yet won for the Swedish and Danish workers, because Tesla still does not give in and does not give in, taking legal action against the Swedish Transport Agency, which has so far refused to deliver the registration plates reserved for Tesla models.
