
A reputation for seriousness and reliability of German cars firmly established in the minds of his fans for a long time. And yet, in practice, it is far from as idyllic as advertised: a new study has again put several German manufacturers at the bottom of the reliability rating.
Consumer Reports is a consumer association, the equivalent of UFC Que Choisir in France. On the other side of the Atlantic, this American organization is known for testing numerous cars, but also conducts a annual inspection of the reliability of the carcollecting data from 330,000 owners vehicles put into circulation from 2000 to 2023.

These various reviews from the real experience of this panel of drivers allow you to set reliability statistics, with an overall rating by brands. Among the most reliable brands we find Lexus and Toyota, Acura, Honda, Subaru, Mazda and Kia. Some German manufacturers, however, show a good reliability rating, such as Porsche, BMW, as well as its Mini brand, English but with very Bavarian mechanics.
At the other end of the rating we find bad students : Audi, for example, shows a reliability score of only 43%, ranking 19th, while Volkswagen ranks 27th out of 30 with a score of only 26%. Mercedes is not far behind, with an overall score of 23%, placing the star brand in penultimate place in the ranking, just ahead of Chrysler, last with 18% reliability.
