Launched in 2020 on the Old Continent Honda e stands out for its refined, futuristic and attractive styling, as well as new technologies in the segment, such as rear-view cameras. The interior also impresses with the instrument panel, on which we find no less than five screens, supplemented by a sixth located in the central rear-view mirror.

Under its hood, we find a 100% electric motor with 136 and 154 horsepower, as well as a battery of only 35.5 kWh, placed under the floor, which has caused numerous critics: in fact, in the most economical version, the Honda e only reflects the range 222 km according to the WLTP cycle! Its rather elite price of 42,100 euros contributed, as you can imagine, doomed its commercial career from the first steps on the market.

Honda e: the end of the career of an electric city car

Honda’s European headquarters just confirmed that the Honda e will not have a successor, and that it was now cannot be ordered anymore electric city car. Only after three years of career, the page opens for the first 100% electric model from the Japanese company.

The brand does not release any sales figures, but according to the German organization KBA, only 677 units of the Honda e were registered in Germany last year. And in France we hardly talk about it In 2022, 128 copies were sold, and 371 units over the same period in Japan. It’s really hard to break even with those numbers.

Replaced with an electric SUV

Like most of its competitors, Honda is abandoning the city car segment to focus on a more active market: that of SUVs and other crossovers. This is evidenced by the recent launch of Honda’s second all-electric model, the e:Ny1, an urban SUV based on the new e:N Architecture F platform, equipped with a 68.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. offering up to 412 km of autonomy under the WLTP cycle.

others 100% electric models are also planned in the assortment of the Japanese manufacturer. A second electric SUV was recently unveiled: the Honda Prologue, which aims to compete with the Tesla Model Y and the likes of the Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric. Launched for the first time on the American market, Prologue should arrive in our countries soon, by 2025.
