This is a manufacturer that was once known for its large and luxurious sedans, “phaetons”, “landolets”, “torpedoes”: Lancia. Because, Founded in 1906, Lancia is one of Italy’s oldest automotive brands, which flourished in the 20s and 30s with many high-end models. But Lancia is also a sport, especially rally! In 1972, the Fulvia HF won the World Rally Championship, this is sanctification. Stratos then won the title three years in a row, in 1974, 1975 and 1976. It was necessary to wait when Delta HF to finally make the brand a legend : she won the World Rally Championship six times, from 1987 to 1992!
A brand that has been overshadowed for over 10 years
This historical parenthesis reminds us to what extent Lancia is a brand that has come a long way. His bad reputation has been fixed in the collective consciousness for more than a century. However, we must face the facts: the brand has completely faded in recent years. The difficulties of the late Fiat-Chrysler group took it from 2011 to the rank of “premium manufacturer” without soul and taste: Thema, Voyager, and Flavia were simply rebadged Chryslers. The brand exists only in Italy and with one model: Epsilon. But this chic city car has been continuously on the market for 12 years! Make no mistake, Italians still love it: it was the second best-selling model in the country in 2022 (41,000 copies), behind the Fiat Panda! His replacement was beginning to become urgent, and it is beginning to take shape…
Came back thanks to Stellantis
Last year, the brand announced its return: new positioning, new logo, new design, new philosophy. It plans to go 100% electric from 2026 with the launch of the Aurelia crossover, which will be supported by the compact electric Delta in 2028. Before, the next Ypsilon should be available in both electric and hybrid versions. It will be presented in Milan next February and should recover stylistic codes of Pu+Ra HPE concept. Lancia just revealed the first image of its future city car: we learned very little or little. Yes, it will be available in initial edition limited to 1,906 copies and designed in collaboration with Cassina, an Italian premium furniture brand. As you can see, her dress is still very difficult to determinebut Lancia will slowly reveal other details in the coming weeks.
