A strike that has grown

The strike movement, launched in late October by the steel trade union IF Metall, has since spread to other sectors. The postal sector joined the movement on November 20. employees stop deliveries to Tesla offices and repair shops.

Since license plates are only delivered by mail, the move could hamper the circulation of new Teslas, which brand boss Elon Musk called “ crazy “Friday. In its application to Norrköping District Court, Tesla is asking the court to require the Swedish Transport Agency to ensure that the license plates “ become Tesla’s owner“.

It also seeks a fine of one million crowns (about €87,000) if the state agency fails to comply with a possible court order. Last week, the Swedish Transport Agency announced that the dispatch of the plates had been entrusted to the postal group Postnord under a contract that applies to all public institutions.

In another request, Tesla is asking a court in Solna, a suburb of Stockholm, to force Postnord, which is owned by the governments of Sweden and Denmark, to return the numbers.

Will Tesla give in?

In addition to IF Mettall, nine other unions have announced solidarity action against Tesla workers, such as dockers and construction workers.

Collective agreements concluded in each sector form the basis of the Swedish labor market model. They cover almost 90% of all Swedish workers and guarantee them a minimum wage and working conditions.
