Until Volkswagen is experiencing a difficult end of the year with sales down by half, here’s news that risks being controversial for European customers.
Considered? Prices for a large sedan ID.7 advertised in China, the price of which is half the price shown here. Future outrage in sight?
The price is twice as expensive in China!
Introduced this year and available to order within a few weeks in FranceID.7 is expensive Announced as the new flagship of the ID series, the sedan starts with 62,650 euros in processing Professional styleand asks 67,990 euros in Exclusive Pro style. And at the moment it’s just a “small” battery 77 kW/h which is available at this price.
Even if the Grand Tourer is converted, these prices are far from the manufacturer’s values, which is the basis of the slogan ” People’s car“…
In China, the ID.7 was presented at the Shanghai Motor Show. And it just became available to order in the Middle Kingdom at a price far removed from the price here. According to Automotive News ChinaThe ID.7 retails for RMB 237,700, which matches 30,400 euros ! This is 32,250 euros less than in Europe.
A stark observation that can only leave a bitter aftertaste with future VW customers. Especially when we know there are two models very similar.
Why such a price difference?
Indeed, the differences between the two models are minor: the Chinese ID.7 is equipped with a battery 84 kW/h and an electric motor 201 hp (150 kW).
At home and in the United States, the ID.7 has a battery 77 kW/h (the 86 kWh version will appear in the first quarter of 2024) and is developing 282 hp with a new 210 kW engine.
The first explanation will be production. The “Western” model is produced on Emden in the north-west of Germany. In China, the ID.7 is produced in a joint venture with FAW, with logically lower costs (much cheaper labor). But these production costs cannot justify such a difference in price.
In fact, the German manufacturer is forced to significantly reduce prices on the Asian continent, because the competition is very strong. Local brands offer aggressive prices electric carswhich forces VW to align itself so as not to lose further market share, even though the manufacturer is struggling with the ID range.
