If you look at MG’s lineup in France, you’ll see rational models that are completely in tune with the times, all with low average prices for their category, even if the 2024 bonus should make a serious comeback for the brand’s electric models. almost at the level of competitors.
A few months ago, MG introduced a sleek sedan called the MG7. Surprisingly, an electric motor is missing from the program, as the Sino-British fake Audi A7 Sportback sedan is equipped with 1.5-liter with 188 hp. and 300 Nm or 2.0-liter with 261 hp. and 405 Nm.
Sedan at favorable prices
The car has recently been talked about because of its pricing in China, with the entry-level version priced at just 119,800 yuan, that is, less than 15,500 euros. With a bigger engine and several options, the bill rises to 181,800 yuan, or about 23,000 euros.
At that price, the MG7 would be the king of sedans in Europe, but it never will be. For what ? Because this model will never be sold here. Contacting MG France, the manufacturer assured us that the sedan will not arrive on the Old Continent for obvious reasons of pollution control standards.
Before that with transport costs, customs duties and taxes, a car can cost up to 70% more than Chinese prices, not to mention different environmental fines depending on the country. MG doesn’t have plug-in hybrids planned, or even 100% electric versions, we’re just content with pictures of this very handsome sedan.
The future of MG in Europe
In Europe, the brand wants to focus on electrified cars: a hybrid MG3 and ZS equipped with the same engine will appear next year. The Cyberster, which should start at around €60,000, will hit the market within a few months, and MG is also working on building a plant in Europe.
It should be off the ground by 2025-2026, and talks are currently underway with Spain, Italy and Hungary to host this famous factory… which could therefore mean the return of France’s bonus for some MG EVs! If the bonus is still valid at that time.
