If midnight demons drag you into the night, so do parking demons in certain municipalities! As our colleagues from the magazine “Auto Plus” testify in the report on parking (No. 1837), some cities do whatever they want in this area, and it would be very wrong to deprive themselves of this, since they have full control since 2018.
In fact, under pressure from the mayors, the government entrusted all parking management to the municipalities. A barely veiled goal? Replenish the coffers of certain cities. And in this little game, municipalities do more or less what they want, trying to solve the delicate equation of getting freebies to pay enough without “discouraging” them from coming to town.
It’s hard to navigate, and that’s (almost) on purpose!
But when you’re a tourist town, some policies border on the ridiculous. It is difficult to navigate between municipalities such as Paris, which determine the rate per quarter of an hour, others that offer free electric cars, others that relate the price of parking to the weight of the car, and still others that set completely indigestible FPS amounts.
Fps-stationnement.fr recently detailed the conditions in force at parking meters in the 599 municipalities that charge street parking, and some of them are surprising, to say the least. like these cities where you pay for parking until the end of the night!
You have to pay even at night
Unsurprisingly, this is a very touristy area and they have moved away from traditional paid parking hours such as “Monday to Saturday 9am to 7pm”. For example, from May to October in Saint-Tropez (83), the paid time lasts from 8 am to 1 am. If you park in square XVthousand The body, don’t even ask yourself questions, it pays 24 hours a day!
Hardly more encouraging is Collioure (66), where it runs from 8 a.m. to midnight. For tourists who are used to the classic time slot and have no idea about paying for parking, for example, at 10:00 p.m., they will get acquainted with the city’s traffic schedule thanks to the “good old” FPS.
In 2024, not surprisingly, Lourdes will extend the period of paid parking from 18:15 to 22:15, and Clamard (92), which is not necessarily known for its touristic side, despite being a very nice city, makes parking pay in its orange zone from midnight to 8 p.m.
