Created in 2008 by Henrik Fisker, an automotive brand Fisker at the time wanted to revolutionize the supercar category by offering (at the time it had to be believed) sporty electric models that are also high-end. Its very first model, the Karma, came off the ground in 2011 100% electric supercar equipped with a thermal range extender that developed a total power of 403 horsepower for 1300 Nm of torque. Despite a promising start, his career ended prematurely and his sales were private: his marketing ceased in 2012, a year before the launch of the Tesla Model S, which was a phenomenal success and took the brand to the top. Unfortunately, Fisker Automotive went bankrupt in 2013. And here everything gets more complicated…
From Fisker Automotive to Karma Automotive
Bought that year by the Chinese group Wanxiang, later it was renamed Karma Automotive. But at the same time, Henri Fisker tried the automotive adventure again, creating a new brand called Fisker Inc. It is on sale from 2022, a large 100% electric family SUV called Ocean, which will soon be sold in France. And Karma Automotive? The brand still exists and still floats under the Chinese flag: in 2017, the company launched its first post-bankruptcy model: the Revero, which is nothing but the original Karma of 2011, modernized and more reliable. Today she makes the announcement with great fanfare its second mainstream electric model: Kaveya. As such, this is truly the first model from Karma Automotive, as the Revero was not designed in the Chinese era, but rather a facelift.
Kaveya’s Karma to forget the disappointments of the past
There is no longer a thermal autonomy extender, Kaveya is a pure electric battery powered sports car. Stylistically, it’s a more sensual model and a lot less weird than the Karma/Revero: normal, it was designed by Michelle Christiansen, who is behind the second generation Honda NSX… Its two electric motors develop stratospheric power 1180 horsepower ! A single-engine version with 545 horsepower will join the range a few months after the launch, which is scheduled for 2025. As for autonomy, its 120 kWh battery should provide a range of approximately 400 kilometers. A figure that should melt quickly if we play with it 290 km/h maximum speed, and if you press hard on the mushroom, accelerate it to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds. It’s already open for pre-order (at $10,000) and is set to be released in limited production, with no specific numbers at this time…
