Earlier this week on Auto Plus, we told you about Tesla’s surprising decision regarding the Cybertruck marketing process.

In fact, the American company has announced that anyone can buy one of the first examples of an electric pickup truck must remain owner for at least one year before considering resale.

There was a small exception though, and that was if you really needed to sell your Cybertruck within the year you bought it by contacting the dealer to get some sort of “permission”.

Tesla is already turning the sails

Obviously, this kind of provision, which we sometimes find in the world of prestige brands for very specific models that are subject to speculation, has caused controversy.

Faced with the backlash it caused, especially in the United States, Tesla would choose to suspend this clauseand in particular a penalty that may lead to resale in the first year.

What did this point say?

If a customer decides to sell their Cybertruck before the end of the year without following the “procedure”, he faces a fine of $50,000 (about €46,800). Added to this is the fact that Tesla may refuse to sell other vehicles in the future to the same owner.

Tesla stated in the Cybertruck sales contract that: “You understand and acknowledge that the Cybertruck will initially be sold in limited quantities. You agree not to sell the vehicle for the first year after the date of delivery. Notwithstanding the above, if someone is forced to sell before that date for an unforeseeable reason, and Tesla confirms that the reason requires an exception to the applicable policy, they must notify Tesla in writing and give them a reasonable period of time to repurchase. . »

“If Tesla refuses to buy the car, the user will be able to resell the car, but only after receiving written consent from the company. Otherwise, Tesla can seek an injunction to prevent the vehicle from being transferred and seek damages of $50,000 or the sale proceeds, whichever is greater.
