With more than 1.3 million units produced, the second generation Peugeot 3008 was one of the biggest commercial successes in Peugeot’s history. The 3008 II, which will appear on our roads in 2016, will be replaced next year by the third generation, a model that has already been presented to us and will be eligible for a 100% electric version for the first time.
However, even seven years after the release the current Peugeot 3008 is still a solid choice in the world of C-segment SUVseven if some elements, starting with technology, are starting to show the weight of age.
Style that still hits the mark
Aesthetically, the pencil stroke of Gilles Vidal and his teams still works, and the restyling that took place in 2020 only confirmed the design that most people liked. Even if today the style no longer has anything really “extraordinary”, especially with the democratization and evolution of Peugeot styling, it is clear that it is generally still relevant and does not necessarily stand out in the Peugeot range, which has since been significantly updated. .
The only thing that can be annoying is meeting the same car as you at every corner, but this is the case with many successful models.
A little outdated from the point of view of technology
Inside, the situation is not outdated at all, even if the navigation in the infotainment system will remind you that this model is not very young. Since then, Peugeot has made great efforts at this level, but the Peugeot 3008 II clearly no longer meets the requirements of this level. It never could be, thanks to a system that’s generally difficult to understand, ergonomics that could be improved, and some lag when navigating between menus.
3008 II stands out because in terms of ergonomics and general atmosphere, the seat behind the wheel has not aged. It remains to be seen whether you’re a fan of the small steering wheel and remote meter above, but given the number of sales of the model, it’s clear that this won’t necessarily bother many people.
A large number of engines
As for engines, the 3008 II was initially offered with conventional petrol and diesel units. After restyling, versions with microhybrid and PHEV appeared. As the 3008 III diesel has not been extended, customers will have more choice in the second-generation range at this level.
Even though it’s no longer available in a 130-hp 1.5-liter BlueHDI four-cylinder version, the 3008 II also existed with a 1.6-liter engine. 100, 115 or 120 hpas well as a 2.0-liter four-cylinder 136, 150 or 180 hpdepending on the version.
As for petrol engines, Peugeot also offers its customers a choice for seven years, with the 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech. 130 hp (it has since been replaced by a 136 hp micro-hybrid version) and a 1.6-liter PureTech four-cylinder engine 165 or 180 hp. The early versions were quite fragile in terms of timing chain, especially the three-cylinder, but the micro-hybrid version of the 136, which is still sold today, benefits from a new, more reliable timing.
For models after 2020, Peugeot also offers two hybrid versions with a capacity of 225 and 300 hp. These are not the most efficient versions of the range, far from it, especially with dead batteries, but the driving pleasure is still there.
At all prices
Peugeot 3008 II can be found widely less than 20,000 euros are in use today, especially the first versions released in 2016. They usually have a mileage of 100,000 to 150,000 km, not necessarily the most optimal, but still they offer a good compromise.
For newer models, especially after facelifts, prices range from €25,000 to €35,000 depending on engine and trim. These versions will obviously have lower mileage given the fact that they are also newer.
