It’s a fact that electric cars have been enjoying more and more success in recent years. And it is not for nothing that the offer has expanded significantly, and the prices are lower thanks to the appearance of more affordable models. We are thinking, for example, of the Dacia Spring, as well as the MG 4, among others, which are very popular. But some motorists are still afraid to take the plunge for fear of going out of range. That’s why it’s important to look at the consumption of the model you want to buy, in addition to the claimed autonomy.

What consumption?

In general, the consumption of an electric car is taken into account from 15 to 20 kWh/100 km for most models. A reasonable number that allows you to avoid an increase in the number of visits to the charging station. But as you probably know, electric cars also consume energy when they are stationary. Of course, the numbers are significantly lower, but by how much? This question was asked by the Belgian startup Re.alto, which researched this topic. And here is the result, to put it mildly, unexpected!

Amazing figure

According to the company, a stationary electric car consumes up to 1000 kWh per year. To put it mildly, an amazing number, which may seem very high. Of course, this is an idea that varies depending on the model and other parameters. Indeed, some cars transmit data even when they are switched off or, for example, performing an update. According to the study, this is equivalent to an additional annual cost of €200 in France at current electricity prices.
