
Renault recently partnered with R-Fit, a specialist in retrofitting retro cars, to offer official electrical retrofit kits to outfit the brand’s most iconic collectible cars. The solution was already available for the Renault 4L (approved from February 2023), and now fans Renault 5 can also offer him a 100% electric conversion kit.
The official Renault 5 electrical upgrade kit has just been releasedget approval (from September 2023) for R5 TL and GTL, 3 or 5 doors (types 139700 and 122700). After the R-Fit conversion, the car will have a certificate of approval as well as an updated registration document allowing it to travel in Low Emission Zones (ZFE).
Renault 5 retrofit: 80 km of autonomy
Conceived R-FitThe 100% electric retrofit kit for the Renault 5 retains the original manual transmission and adds a 22kW brushless synchronous electric motor (30 horses), electronic charge sensor, “Power Box” (battery operating system), as well as a LiFePo battery (Lithium-iron phosphate) with a capacity of 105V 10.7 kWh.
The whole makes it possible to offer approx 80 km of autonomy, and a full charge can be made in 3 hours 30 minutes from a 220 V (16 A) outlet. To maintain the driving feel of the vintage model, the weight distribution remains very close to that of the original Renault 5 equipped with a thermal engine.
Approved set from 15,900 euros
The official Renault 5 electrical retrofit kit is available to order in France from R-Fit at rfitvintage.com: it offers from €15,900includes installation and deducts the conversion premium, and comes with a 2-year parts and labor warranty.
The French manufacturer welcomes fans of old cars on Epoqu’Auto show, which this year will be held from November 10 to 12, 2023 at Eurexpo Lyon. The stand “The Originals Renault – La Collection” will present two modernized cars, Renault 4 and Renault 5: visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with the offer of modernization for the brand’s models and place orders at the R-Fit stand.
Renault will then expand its range of conversion kits for its older models by adding a electrical kit for upgrading Twingowhich will later be offered on the French market.
