Although it may seem trivial, getting behind the wheel is actually very far from it. Indeed, and as we are regularly reminded Traffic safetyDriving remains a dangerous activity that requires our responsibility and constant attention. That’s why you have to pass your driving test before you can hit the road on your own. But once it’s in our possession, we keep it for life, barring, of course, serious traffic violations, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Check from 50 years
This may cause some concern, especially among supporters of a ban on driving for older people. Indeed, we know that hitting the road after a certain age is even more risky due to loss of reflexes and reduced concentration. There have also been many serious, even fatal, accidents caused by senior citizens. That is why some countries have decided to introduce mandatory checks for the elderly. This especially applies to Italy, where you need to pass exam from 50 years. But that’s not all.
Strict prohibition
In fact, the government goes even further by simply banning people over the age of 68 from driving a heavy vehicle. Article 126 of the Traffic Act determines that this is so “it is forbidden to have driving license C or CE after 68 years“. In case of non-compliance with this measure, violators face a very high fine of 1,200 euros, associated with the deprivation of driving licenses for a period of four to eight months.
