On September 21, in the mountains of Colorado Springs, the BMW XM Red Label set a new Pikes Peak record in the hybrid SUV category. This record was achieved with driver Matt Mullins on board the car and the support of the Rhys Millen Racing team.

The track stretches for 19.93 kilometers and is dotted with no less than 156 winding turns. Matt Mullins and BMW XM Red Label reached the top in 10 minutes 48 seconds 60 hundredths. This performance bettered the previous category record of the Lamborghini Urus Performante by almost one and a half seconds.

BMW XM Red Label in several figures

BMW XM Red Label is the most powerful model in the M line at the moment. It takes advantage of technology directly derived from the BMW M Hybrid V8 prototype featured in the IMSA WeatherTech North American sports car series.

As for the engine, this Red Label edition uses the V8 of the “classic” XM, but gets 95 hp. and reaches 585 hp. (489 hp for XM). The torque also increases. Its torque increases by 200 Nm and reaches a maximum value of 1000 Nm.

The thermoblock is connected to an electric motor with a capacity of 197 hp. Power is sent to all four wheels thanks to the M xDrive all-wheel drive system. Accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h 3.8 seconds and the maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. However, it can reach 290 km/h by opting for the Experience M pack option.

The BMW XM Red Label has a battery with a capacity of 25.7 kWh. Depending on the WLTP cycle, the electric range ranges from 75 to 83 km.

The SUV is available in France

This Red Label series differs from XM in special settings. The car comes standard with M Pro adaptive suspension and electronically adjustable shock absorbers linked to Active Roll Comfort stabilization. This is not necessarily a luxury for a car weighing almost 2.8 tons.

BMW XM Red Label, which is produced at the BMW Group plant in Spartanburg, USA, is available at: 203,000 euros.
