On the night of Thursday, November 2, “exceptional” gusts of wind blew over Brittany and “numerous absolute records were broken”, reports Météo France, in particular a gust of 207 km/h was recorded in Finisterre.

Storm Ciaran swept across Brittany, particularly affecting the departments of Finistère, Cote d’Armor and Manche (Normandy), which forced the authorities to take emergency measures to ensure public safety.

Prohibition of movement until further notice

Strong winds caused trees to fall onto roads in Finisterre, resulting in a road traffic accident with one minor injury.

In response to this situation, the prefecture of the department reported complete prohibition of traffic on the department’s street and road networkclarifying that “The traffic ban along the entire network of roads will be lifted gradually as the clearing works are carried out. »

At the same time, kindergartens and sports facilities in Kemper were forced to close due to dangerous weather conditions. Two cranes were also assembled in Brest.

Other departments were affected by the bad weather

In Côte d’Armor, the authorities decided to extend the ban on the movement of heavy goods vehicles and public transport until noon due to the storm. The department’s national forests are closed to visitors “until further notice”. The damage was numerous, branches and trees fell, electric wires fell onto the road, and the roofs of houses and businesses were damaged.

In Morbihan, the prefect strongly advised residents to postpone their trips, especially in the morning, because “a significant number of fallen trees on public roads. »

In Mansha, the prefect took drastic measures to guarantee public safety. Two decrees were issued, banning the movement of heavy vehicles, public transport and caravans from 2 am, and restricting access to maritime space. At the same time, he did not specify when these measures will be canceled.

Météo France announced a slight improvement, lifting the red wind warning for Finisterre at 6am. However, a red alert is declared in the Channel department.
