Hyundai Electric: Samsung prismatic batteries
This is the first ever partnership between Samsung and Hyundai in the battery industry for electric vehicles. Products supplied by Samsung SDI will prismatic batteries for Hyundai electric vehicles for the European market, and this partnership will continue for seven years, from 2026 to 2032.
These batteries will be the sixth generation of the Samsung SDI prismatic battery called “P6” : it features an NCA cathode composed of 91% nickel and a silicon-based anode exclusive to Samsung SDI that maximizes energy density. The P6 batteries will be manufactured at Samsung SDI’s Hungarian plant and supplied to Hyundai Motor’s production sites there. in Europe.
A long partnership
This partnership with Samsung SDI should allow Hyundai to diversify the battery formats of its electric vehicles through the use of prismatic batteries. For the Korean manufacturer, this agreement provides an opportunity to increase the popularity of prismatic batteries among its customers.
These two companies are already under consideration continue cooperation after this first agreement to work on new generation battery platforms.
