Toyota’s transition to 100% electric is taking place slowly, but it’s clear that the Japanese manufacturer seems to have changed its tune in recent months.
The brand even shows great promise, as a revolutionary battery is being prepared that will allow it to reach 1,000 km of autonomy on a single charge.
But this battery is not designed immediately, and even more so for 2024. Toyota named the year 2026, but in anticipation of that date, the brand will focus on what it does best, namely the hybrid.
The new Toyota C-HR enters the scene
In 2024, Toyota will mainly focus on the commercial launch of its future bestseller in Europe, the new C-HR. We have already managed to discover this model, and its launch is planned for the first months of next year.
In January 2024, two versions will appear with the 140 and 200 hybrids (also available with all-wheel drive). In April, it will be the turn of the 225-horsepower hybrid version, which has a similar power plant with the new Prius, to enter the market.
Are there multiple electric models?
In terms of product presentation, we can still expect a few things regarding electricity. Even if Toyota remains rather coy on the matter, we could see the arrival of an electric C-HR alter ego with the bZ3X, the bZ4X’s younger sibling.
But this information should be taken with a grain of salt, because Toyota may wait and use older technologies to launch its electric SUV and avoid the failures that occur when running bZ4X.
The bZ3 electric sedan, first launched in China, may also make its way to Europe, but even there Toyota may wait to take advantage of better controlled technologies. At the end of 2024, we may also be entitled to the first sketches of the Toyota bZ2X, a small 100% electric SUV with a base price of less than €25,000.
