In its 2024 finance bill, the French government announced an increase in the infamous environmental fine : it will apply from 118 g/km CO2 from January 1, 2024, and the maximum fine will be 60,000 euros from 194 g/km of CO2! Enough to refuse to buy numerous models on the market…
To help you put things into perspective, here are the Toyota models that will be affected by the 2024 environmental penalty.
Toyota: environmental penalty of 2024 applies to many models
Let’s start with the good news: certain models of the Japanese manufacturer will not be subject to the 2024 environmental fine. These are the Toyota Aygo X, Yaris Cross, Corolla, the new C-HR II or even the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid. . Of course, this strict measure will also not affect the “zero emission” models, such as the 100% electric Toyota bZ4X, ProAce City Verso Electric, ProAce Verso Electric or even the hydrogen Mirai.
Toyota sports models risk disappearing from the French catalog due to the 2024 environmental fine: in fact, GR Yaris (186 g CO2/km) in 2024 will be punished with a fine of 35,346 euros, and GR Supra (from 161 to 198 g CO2/km) will show a fine of 4,543 to 60,000 euros depending on the version!
As for the largest models of the brand, then Toyota Hilux (from 219 to 278 g CO2/km) will also be subject to a maximum fine of €60,000, and Land Cruiser (from 241 to 252 g CO2/km). THE Highlander (158 g CO2/km) reflects a fine of 3,784 euros.
Some Toyota hybrids are subject to the 2024 environmental penalty
Certain models that we can’t imagine this applies to also incur an environmental penalty: petrol engines Toyota Yaris (from 122 to 130 g CO2/km) show penalties of 150 to 310 euros depending on the version, while the hybrid version is exempt.
But some hybrid models in the Toyota range will also face an environmental penalty in 2024: this applies to the 2.0-liter 184 hp hybrid engine. Toyota C-HR (from 118 to 120 g CO2/km), which entails a fine of 50 to 100 euros depending on the version. To avoid the fine, you’ll have to go for the smaller 1.8-litre 122bhp hybrid. THE Rav4 Hybrid (from 126 to 133 g CO2/km) carries a fine of 230 to 400 euros depending on the version, while the plug-in hybrid version is exempt.
Other models in Toyota’s lineup, though more family-oriented, bear the brunt of 2024’s environmental punishment: the recreational vehicle ProAce City Verso (from 136 to 159 g CO2/km) shows a fine of 650 to 4,026 euros depending on the version, while the minivan ProAce Verso (from 169 to 197 g CO2/km) is punishable by a fine of 7,959 to 60,000 euros depending on the version!
