After a small restyling of the GLA, Mercedes-AMG presents the 45 S version, the most powerful model in the line. In the program without serious mechanical innovations, but simply some aesthetic and technological improvements.
The front apron has been revised for a more dynamic look, and the AMG badge is proudly displayed on the front hood, reminding of its sporty character. By default, all optics are now LED. As an option, Mercedes offers Multibeam LED with a directional light system.
The wheel arch flares are painted in body color and surround the 21-inch wire wheels. At the rear, the dual round exhaust and roof spoiler reinforce its sporty character. On the other hand, only the light shade of the optics changes.
More technology on board
The interior of the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S has also received significant improvements. The AMG Performance steering wheel, once optional, is now standard. The MBUX infotainment system has also been improved.
It adopts the new menu design characteristic of Mercedes-AMG and offers an expanded set of features, including support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Passengers will also benefit from enhanced connectivity with higher USB charging power and an additional USB-C port.
A small SUV that has some responsiveness
Under the hood, the GLA 45 S retains its previous engine, a powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. 421 hp and 500 Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch automatic transmission and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ technology equipped with AMG Torque Control.
This combination delivers amazing performance for an SUV of its size, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds and a maximum speed of 270 km/h.
French prices for this restyled version have not yet been announced, but you will undoubtedly have to pay not less than 75,000 euros to afford it, not counting the inevitable registration taxes, which will put the final bill in excess of €100,000. That’s starting to do a lot for a “small” SUV as high-performance as it is.
