Here is a topic that has been worrying motorists for several weeks: revaluation of the environmental bonus and penalty in France ! Created by the state to encourage or, on the contrary, hinder the purchase of certain models, they are about to be completely revised. Currently, their principle is as follows: a bonus is given for the purchase of environmentally friendly vehicles, and a fine is imposed for models that pollute the environment.
The amount of these incentives or penalties depends on the vehicle’s CO2 emissions and varies from €0 for cars that emit less than 123 g of CO2 per kilometer to 50,000 euros for models with an emission of more than 225 g/km ! In addition, only electric vehicles will benefit from this measure a discount of up to 5,000 euros or even 7,000 euros for low-income households. But as we told you above, It’s almost over!
Change of 2024
1Er A new scale will come into effect in January 2024. Even greater limitations for thermal models because the threshold for triggering the fine will be lowered to 118 g of CO2 per kilometer. Another change: the ceiling increases from €50,000 to €60,000 and will no longer be limited to a maximum of 50% of the purchase price. It’s the same story with electric cars, which will no longer automatically receive bonuses for their “zero emissions” nature.
The state wants to promote producers who play the local game, with production mainly in France or on European territory. At the height of the wave of Chinese electric cars this to slow down the deployment of models assembled on the other side of the world that use very carbon-intensive energy… Significant changes that will now – as part of the fine – reduce the selling price of several new models. A few tens of euros, of course, sometimes, but still…
Kia, BMW and Volkswagen
If we look at the list of models to which the environmental penalty will now be applied, not all manufacturers are in the same boat. Kia is the most affected by these new rules, currently affecting 30 models. (in addition to those that were above 123 g/km until now). When we talk about 30 models, it’s actually 30 versions (engines, trims, etc.) of different models. THE Picanto, Rio, Stonic and Ceed concerned about fines between 50 and 150 euros, nothing too dramatic, but you should know it.
Next comes BMW with 22 model variants, followed by Volkswagen with 20 and Suzuki with 18. Things are not too bad for French women: 10 for Renault, 8 for Peugeot and 7 for Citroën. Franco-Romanian Dacia does a bit more, with 12 variants of its Sandero and Jogger. Don’t wait 1Er January 2024, if the model already catches the eye!
