Over the years, cars are getting bigger and bigger, which even creates some problems, especially in parking lots. But in addition to the increasing size of vehicles, we are also noticing that small cars are disappearing more and more. This can be seen in the catalogs of manufacturers, many of which remove their city cars. This includes Ford with its Ka and Fiesta, as well as Volkswagen, which has just retired its Up after more than a decade. But will we see the pure and simple disappearance of these cars?

A growing trend
First of all, what explains the disappointment of brands small city cars ? In fact, there are several reasons. First of all, the growth of electricity. Indeed, batteries are still relatively heavy and bulky, making small EVs less attractive in terms of price as well as range. But this is not the only reason. Indeed, European regulations on CO2 emissions should lead to an increase in the price of thermal cars.
There are fewer and fewer models
So brands would have to raise their prices to stay profitable, but customers probably wouldn’t want to spend more on a small car. However, city cars must still exist, as evidenced by the success of some electric models such as 500th, Dacia Spring or the new Mini Cooper SE, just unveiled at the Munich Motor Show last September.
