It’s been more than a decade since the Daihatsu brand had a presence in Europe, although it notably sold its charming Copen roadster. But it is possible that the Chinese company will soon return to our country. And for good reason, the manufacturer has just opened the curtain on a completely new concept car, which should appeal to fans of small roadsters in the style of the Mazda MX-5. The latter should be presented to the public at the next exhibition in Tokyo, which opens in a few days.
The Daihatsu Vision Copen is bigger than ever, but still just as charming.

Retro look
Christened Daihatsu Vision Copen, this new one is obviously very much inspired by the original convertible, especially in silhouette, but also in the front end. The latter remains very close and, in particular, retains the small round lights, which this time become LED. Then everything is modernized properly, and the charm of the first version is preserved. On board, the presentation is classic and refined, while it has a small touch screen as well as a digital dashboard behind the steering wheel. Everything in compact size, length 3.84 m for 1.70 m wide and 1.27 m high.
Not electric
If we might think that a small Japanese roadster would logically transform into an electric one, it doesn’t seem to be the case. Indeed, the concept includes a small engine display with a volume of 1.3 l, the capacity of which has not yet been revealed. However, it is possible that a zero-emission option will appear a little later, but nothing has been announced so far. Daihatsu claims its engine can run on synthetic fuel.
