We know that speed cameras are everywhere now, and it’s almost impossible to hit the road without coming across at least one. If the latter are officially present to ensure the safety of motorists, then, first of all, they represent a very significant financial profit for the state. In fact, they report every year several billion euros revenues due to violations, which are often not serious. This trend is expected to continue to accelerate over the next year as the government is already announcing its plans for 2024.
TRAFFIC SAFETY:
I want to cancel the deduction of points for exceeding the speed of less than 5 km/h and thus treat those who work with understanding.
Conversely, I want to disenfranchise drunk drivers because they are potentially dangerous.— Gerald Darmanin (@GDarmanin) February 19, 2023
New radars
Indeed, many more effective radars will be installed on roadsides over the next year. The goal? Reach 4,600, a target that has already been announced for this year. Indeed, the aim is to increase the level of availability and, above all, their efficiency. Thus, there should be fewer classic booths than before, as the state plans to even remove them. But gifts to motorists are out of the question, even the other way around. Because the goal is primarily to maximize profits and increase verbalization.
Numerous turrets
Therefore, starting next year, the number of tower radars should increase significantly. In fact, the latter should be increased by 50% compared to 2023. In total, France will have at least 1,500, compared to 1,000 now. In addition, autonomous radars, or construction site radars should also breed on roadsides. In short, next year should be even tougher in terms of road safety and profitable for the authorities.
