First of all: carefully evaluate the power of the meter

You absolutely should estimate your electricity needs and above all, do not underestimate your consumption. Power, which is measured in kilovolt-amperes (or kVA), is determined by several criteria: the area of your house, the type of heating (electric, gas, etc.), number of household appliances, if there is a water heater, etc. It remains to choose the appropriate contract and, most importantly, the most economical in the long run. And then it gets more complicated…

Select the correct subscription

We do not connect it randomly, but in accordance with the real energy needs of the household. However, the availability of an electric vehicle for recharging is a determining factor. Regardless of the electricity supplier, historical (EDF) or alternative, you have a choice between at least two options: The basic option for those who have little electrical equipment and where a kilowatt-hour is the same price day and night.

And that Peak/off-peak hours. We should know what subscribing to the latter entails subscription and a higher price per kilowatt during peak times (+15% and +10% on average). But, on the other hand, the price in off-peak hours is lower (on average by 25%) than in peak hours. Hence the interest of such a proposal to reduce the bill, of course, provided that keep energy-consuming appliances running as long as possible and charge EVs during off-peak hours.

Offers dedicated to electric cars or hybrids, a good plan?

Before you rush, analyze the offers and do the calculations. Currently, three providers offer special subscriptions for electric vehicles : TotalEnergies with the offer “Charge’Heures”, EDF with “Vert Electrique Auto” and Soui with “Elec’Smart Charge” (developed in partnership with Renault) guaranteed without increase for three years (excluding changes in taxes and transport rates).

Comparators to make your work easier

Energie-info.fr, Hellowatt.fr, Jechange.fr, Quechoisir.org, Selectra.info… many comparators can help you. In just a few clicks, they allow to get a fast simulation. You should compare them and research (on your chosen provider’s website or over the phone) to learn more. Be careful, never rush. In any case, remember what you have fourteen days to change your mindthe deadline you have to miss if you want to activate the offer immediately.

Change of supplier: free of charge and without obligation

Your contract can be terminated at any time and with no minimum commitment period., in a few minutes and without penalties. However, there is one condition: that it be so a new provider who takes care of the procedures. Otherwise, you risk disruptions and therefore more or less long delays in returning to work with Enedis, the power network manager in France (from a few hours to five days), as well as in payment of remuneration to the new supplier.
