In October 1955 Suzuki released its first production minicar in Japan: the Suzulight. Since then, the Japanese manufacturer has only crossed the symbolic bar 80 million cars sold worldwide by the end of August 2023.

Suzuki: presence in 184 countries and regions around the world

Specifically, 28.9 million cars were sold in Japan, while 51.27 million units were exported to the rest of the world, no less than 184 countries and regions. In total, Japan accounts for 36% of sales, India – 32.6%, Europe – 10%, Asia – 13.5% and other regions (Latin America, Oceania, Middle East, Africa, etc.) – 7.8%.

After four years of marketing its cars in Japan, Suzuki began exporting the Suzulight in 1959 and then began production outside of Japan in 1975, opening a plant in Pakistan, followed by India in 1983 and Hungary in 1992. Today Suzuki has 15 production shops of the automotive industry, located in 10 countries of the world.

Suzuki Alto: a real bestseller

After Suzulight, it was with the Suzuki Fronte 800, released in 1965, that the firm really made its debut in the compact car market. But the brand’s bestseller is the mini sitikar Suzuki Alto, launched in 1979, which alone accounts for 20% of the 80 million Suzukis sold. During its 44-year career, the Alto has become an emblematic model of Japanese minicars: it enjoys great success around the world, especially in India, where it accounts for a significant share of Suzuki’s sales.

The future of Suzuki, like its competitors, will be marked by the appearance of several models of electric cars: the Japanese company has actually announced the launch of 5 new electric cars by 2030 and plans to achieve no less By 2030, 80% of sales will be electricity.
