The price of fuel is still very high, that’s a fact. And if the government refuses to do anything to reduce taxation, which brings in large revenues, it asks distributors to make efforts, even if it means putting pressure on them. So they agreed to establish the sale of fuel at cost to help motorists in this difficult period for everyone. So many big brands are playing the game and setting up promotional operations for their clients all over France.
Faced with inflation, the PCF calls on the French to “invade the prefectures”: “How long do you think we will allow ourselves to be cheated like this? “, explains Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the party. “For me, it’s a matter of self-defense.” pic.twitter.com/Q9lSuI1kLC

Babies have a hard time keeping up
This is, for example, the case of TotalEnergies which caps its prices at €1.99 per litre. But we also think about SuperU, Leclerc or even Carrefour and Casino, which now sell their fuel at cost. Good for motorists, but less so for small independent service stations. The latter actually cannot afford to sell their gasoline cheaper, and then they are abandoned by drivers who no longer have the means to fill up at too high a price. Thus, their sales have fell by 10-30%n depending on regions and brands.
Compensation?
The situation is worrying and the trade unions are now demanding government assistance. Francis Puss, national president of Service Stations, explains that “ we look forward to meeting with Olivia Gregoire this week regarding the compensation and energy transition plan“. Indeed, it would be possible to help these small stations, which are currently struggling due to rising prices.
