Since the beginning of July, a reform of driver’s licenses has appeared in France. From now on, among other things, it will be possible to get a license and get behind the wheel with 17 years. However, France is not the only European country making changes to driver’s licenses. There is a driving test in Belgium another of what is practiced in France. After 25 minutes of controlled driving, subjects have a phase of autonomous driving. In the flat country, the government also changed certain rules. Rules which may arrive in France ? We ask the question today.
Driving in full autonomy
For five minutesthe candidate will have to follow a route or head to a specific location without instruction examiner, in general autonomy. For this, the candidate will have to find their way using various road signs and clues found on their route.
From October 1, 2023learner drivers had to learn to follow and properly use a GPS. If in the previous exam candidates could follow either road signs or GPS, now it is mandatory for them to follow GPS while following road signs.
The Flemish Minister for Mobility, Lidia Peeters, explained the choice, stating that:
For what support?
Note that candidates will be left to choose GPS as well as support. The candidate will then be able to bring their own navigation system, such as a laptop equipped with an app, for example Waze Or Google maps. Of course, laptops will need to be securely fastened to smartphone holders. Devices will be available for those without GPS available.
Application in France soon?
You will not miss the fact that more and more drivers are using GPS. Regardless of whether they are built directly into the car or in various applications. with Waze, an app that warns of speed cameras and adapts the route according to traffic, some even use the app on their daily commute.
We can imagine that this is a new rule that is already in effect in Belgium, will soon be studied in France, as the government appears to be open to changes to the test and driving licenses in general.
