A few decades later, everything has changed a lot, and today diesel is blamed for all evils, starting with global warming. This is despite the fact that fuels and engines have evolved significantly over the years to become even cleaner. As a result, its sales have plummeted, and it is now being criticized from all sides in favor of electric cars, which are becoming more and more popular.

Successful models

And this is confirmed by the numbers, because diesel sales fell by 28% during the first half of 2023. Unprecedented, especially as new car registrations are slowly starting to pick up again after a sharp decline caused by the health care crisis and semiconductor shortages. However, if we look at the numbers of used cars, we can see that diesel cars are still successful, while this fuel remains in high demand among heavy drivers who cannot turn to electric cars due to their special needs.

But then which diesel cars are most popular among drivers? At the top of sales we find the Peugeot 308, with no less than 8,130 units sold between January and July. The compact car is followed by the Dacia Duster, and three more cars from the brand complete the list. It 3008, 208 and 2008, sold respectively 5,782, 5,388 and 5,226 copies during the first six months of the year. So diesel is not dead yet!
