But sometimes some frivolous and impatient people don’t want to wait their turn and decide to get on the road before the cars have stopped completely. Which obviously increases the risk of serious or even fatal accidents. Fortunately, there is a proven solution: countdown. The latter simply lets pedestrians know how long they have to wait before they can safely exit and cross the road. The system is already being tested in several cities, including Strasbourg, Vannes and Neuilly-sur-Seine.

But it is possible that this solution will be deployed on a larger scale in the coming years. In fact, Road Safety noted an average 1-5% reduction in crashes on roads equipped with this system. Therefore, in the near future, the entire territory should be equipped with it in the future. This will not be mandatory for municipalities, but is strongly encouraged. Some cities such as Versailles have already announced the future installation, especially since the implementation of this solution does not require large costs.
