For a long time, the Volkswagen Golf was the best-selling car of the German brand. But that was before the advent of SUVs. And in fact, the Volkswagen Tiguan has become the best-selling model of the Volkswagen concern in recent years, Since the presentation of the first generation in 2007, more than 7.5 million cars have been produced.

Volkswagen today presents us with the third generation with some notable developments, but without major revolutions compared to the previous generation.

Evolution is more than revolution

The new Volkswagen Tiguan 2024 measures The length is 4.54 meters (+3 cm compared to the previous model), 1.64 meters high, 1.84 meters wide, with the same wheelbase as the previous model, namely 2.68 meters, and a Cd reduced from 0.33 to 0.28.

The MQB Evo modular platform has evolved to give more space inside and get a bigger trunk, with 652 liters announced that the evening is 37 liters more than the current Tiguan.

The body has a smoother, softer shape, with less protruding edges than in the past. Rims range from 17 to 20 inches, depending on trim. From the sides, you can see that the rib at the height of the door handles is less pronounced than in the previous Tiguan. The rear lights are also LED, with a thin edging that connects the optics along the entire width of the body.

Like a feeling of déjà vu

The interior of the new Volkswagen Tiguan has also been updated with the introduction of the latest MIB4 software, which was first introduced on the Volkswagen ID.7.

The infotainment screen in the center of the dashboard measures between 13 and 15 inches, again depending on the trim. Menu and graphics are new. Behind the steering wheel is a new 10.25-inch digital instrument panel.

Engines of the new Volkswagen Tiguan

All versions of the new Volkswagen Tiguan come standard with a DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission, with six speeds on PHEV versions and seven speeds on other units.

The new Tiguan is available with thermal engines, namely the 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder gasoline turbo from 204 hp, 320 Nm and four-wheel drive, or an option 265 hp, 400 Nm and four-wheel drive. On the diesel side, Volkswagen offers a 2.0-liter TDI 150 hp and 360 Nm in traction, or with 193 hp, 400 Nm and four-wheel drive. The Tiguan is offered with two engines equipped with a 48V mild hybrid system with eTSI available in 130 or 150 hp.

The eHybrid version, i.e. plug-in hybrid, offers up to 100 km of autonomy in electric mode. On this new Tiguan PHEV, instead of the previous 1.4-liter TSI, we find a 1.5-liter TSI gasoline engine with variable geometry turbocharging with a capacity of 150 hp. and 250 Nm in combination with an integrated electric motor with a capacity of 115 hp. and 330 Nm to the gearbox, for total power 204 hp and 350 Nm torque Another version 272 hp and 400 Nm there is also, and the 1.5-liter TSI develops 177 hp. and 250 Nm.

The net capacity of the battery is 19.7 kWh (previous version was 10.6kWh) and AC charging power is 11kW (compared to 3.6kW previously). 50kW DC charging (which wasn’t available on the previous Tiguan) is included and takes around 25 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.

With an entrance ticket of less than 40,000 euros?

Its base price in Germany is 36,600 euros, which means that the entry ticket in France costs less than 40,000 euros.

A seven-seat version is not planned, the previous generation Tiguan Allspace will be replaced by the Tayron, a family model scheduled for 2025.
