For two years, Volvo has on board its latest models a new infotainment system built on the basis of the Android system in partnership with Google.

Similar to the smartphones of the American giant, this new infotainment system includes Google applications and services, such as the Google Assistant voice assistant, connected GPS navigation from Google Maps, traffic information and real-time updates, as well as numerous native car applications available for download on Google Play, optimized for use in Volvo cars.

Volvo: new remote software update

This infotainment system is connected, allowing it to take advantage remote software update (or OTA for “By air”) to keep the system up-to-date, add new features or fix possible errors and malfunctions.

The Swedish manufacturer has just unveiled a brand new software update for its infotainment system, which will be phased in from September 18, 2023: it’s available for all Volvo cars worldwide equipped with the infotainment system. Google infotainment, except in China, South Korea and Vietnam. About 650,000 cars brand are concerned.

“Having services like Prime Video and YouTube in our cars adds to the ever-growing list of software and apps that make life better for our drivers”said Eric Severinson, Volvo’s Global New Car Program Manager: “We keep our promise: to offer cars that evolve with our customers over time. »

YouTube and Prime Video are there, but only turned off

In more detail, users of the latest Volvo models will now be able to access entertainment services and video streaming with integration Prime Video in the app package for download on Google Play while the app Youtube will soon also be available for all Volvos equipped with the Google infotainment system.

For obvious security reasons, streaming video services will only be available on board Volvos when the car is stationary.

The service will be available from September 18, 2023 as a pre-installed program that will be gradually rolled out with a remote update on all compatible models.
