Bugatti has released specs, photos and new information on the Bolide, its most extreme track-only supercar ever built.

According to the brand, this is not “just” a Chiron specially designed for the track. Molsheim engineers have completely redesigned the chassis, now carbon fiber monocoque. The images released by the manufacturer highlight the basics of this monster on four wheels.

A racing car, but not quite a racing car

The new chassis, developed specifically for the Bolide, is not only stiffer compared to the Chiron chassis, but has also been designed to in accordance with the LMH and LMDh standards for endurance vehicles.

According to information provided by Bugatti, in order to gain FIA approval, the Bolide had to pass a test involving the application of a load of 7.5 tonnes to the front strut without exceeding a 50mm deflection at the point of application of the load. But that’s not all. The surrounding structure within a radius of 100 mm from this point also had to withstand the same load.

The whole car showed no cracks during the test, while the other tests passed perfectly. For example, in a rollover test, a force of 12 t was applied to the B-pillar. In another test, a longitudinal load of 6 t was applied to a carbon fiber monocoque in an attempt to simulate a rear-end rollover. – final impact on the barrier.

The most extreme Bugatti in history?

Compared to the regular Chiron, the chassis changes also required some mechanical modifications to accommodate the engine. Compared to the “standard” model, the 8.0-liter W16 with four turbochargers is placed 60 millimeters forward to maintain proper weight distribution.

New center-mounted one-piece alloy wheels shod with bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport tires complete the package. Finally, in case of a problem, the car was equipped with a sophisticated fire extinguishing system from the military world. The Bugatti Bolide will only be built 40 copies and the first customers will receive it during 2024.
