You might have missed these amazing stats: the best-selling electric car in the world it’s not Tesla, but Chinese mini city car: Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. The fact that the model is Chinese is not surprising in itself, as we have learned using the JATO study what almost every second electric car sold in the world is Chinese, and that 60% of electric cars of all brands are made in China. What is more surprising is that the best-selling model is not an SUV or a sedan, but a car four-seater mini city car. Simple, functional, without unnecessary equipment (and sophisticated safety equipment), it was a real hit.
After individuals there is a place for professionals
Riding this trend of mini electric cars designed and built for the city, Wuling has applied this concept to SUVs: here is the new E10 ! This downsized truck rides on the wave of k-cars that are very popular in Asia. This is models with modest dimensions and engines, designed to navigate the continent’s large metropolises, which are often extremely congested. In Europe and France, already existing equivalents are on Piaggio (with porter) Or in DFSK (from EcoCity 31). The innovation of the new Wuling is that its width is only 1.08 m can accommodate only one person ! Rikiki format indeed, but no doubt very useful in the small arteries of Beijing…
27 horsepower, 150 kilometers of autonomy
With a capacity of 1.7 m2 and a permissible load of 200 kg, the little E10 does the job well. His humble electric motor is just developing 27 horses, the maximum speed is limited to 71 km/h. Enough to power a small 9kWh battery that provides approximately 150 kilometers of autonomy (Chinese cycle) on one charge. But the main argument is its price, which starts at only 4,600 euros in China. There is currently no indication that it will be available in Europe. But the number of importers of these small models on the Old Continent is increasing : Mini EV is already imported by Freze as Nikrob EV, and in France, SN Diffusion imports several Chinese models. Enough to give them a new idea?
