When will this situation finally subside? It doesn’t seem to be happening yet. In fact, the latter has been going on for many months, while the rise began with war in Ukraine, which continues today. The reason is the drop in Russian oil production, as well as the embargo introduced by our government. Added to this is a drop in exports from other oil-producing countries, as well as an increase in demand. Not to mention the penalty taxes, which make up about 60% of the price of a liter of gasoline and diesel. Suffice to say, this explosive cocktail does not bode well.

Steady rise

In fact, it is better not to expect prices to fall immediately, on the contrary. Indeed, unleaded 98 petrol now costs an average of around €2 per liter in France. And diesel is slightly lower than SP95. But will it ever fall? Undoubtedly, but not immediately. In any case, this is how energy engineer Thierry Bros explains. The latter emphasizes that “we must expect stable high oil prices, ranging from $85 to $95 per barrel. We are now in the middle of the range“. Suffice it to say, the promotion must continue.

No help

Therefore, the reason for this increase is the increase in the price of a barrel of oil, but the government is attacking the distributors, accusing them of too much stock. The latter then refuses to set any discounts, despite the requests of motorists. Therefore, for now we have to be content with commercial operations organized directly by service stations. And luckily, there are quite a few of them at the moment, especially at TotalEnergies.
