Every year, Volkswagen chooses ID gathering. Treffen of Locarno, Switzerland, as a backdrop for the presentation of electrified versions of its cars.

Having surprised enthusiasts with the off-road version of the ID.4 SUV last year, this time the German manufacturer presented a sports model with the ID.X Performance Concept, a spicy incarnation of the new ID .7.

The most extravagant electric Volkswagen

The ID.X Performance concept shares the same platform as the ID.7 electric sedan, but offers a radically different experience. Under its hood we find two developing electric motors total power of 550 hp, distributed to all four wheels.

Aesthetically, the concept is understated compared to the production model, and 20-inch wheels are shod in semi-slick tires. The massive rear wing, while impressive, probably won’t be if the production version sees the light of day, particularly with the swan-neck style struts we find on some Porsches in particular.

A much less powerful production version?

While the ID.X Performance Concept remains a bold and unlikely styling exercise as a production model, it offers a glimpse into what Volkswagen envisions for the upcoming ID.7 lineup.

In the near future, the Wolfsburg brand plans to release a GTX version. This variant will be equipped with two electric motors that will offer more than 300 horsepower.

In France, the base ID.7 sells for just over €62,000. A pretty high starting price, which suggests a pretty crazy price should the ID.7 GTX see the light of day in the coming months.
