Fuel prices have continued to rise for several months, once again reaching prices close to those recorded at the beginning of the war in Ukraine. The reason is a drop in oil production, an increase in demand, and taxation. And it is not for nothing that we must not forget that taxes make up 60% of the price of a liter, and therefore they are indexed to the last. The more expensive the fuel, the higher the VAT therefore, even if the state guarantees that these revenues do not benefit it. It’s still a little hard to believe. In any case, motorists can’t take it anymore and are calling on the government to act.
The French are punished by supply interruptions at service stations.
Therefore, the government continues the discount of 30 cents/l at gas stations until mid-November.@TotalEnergies also extends its discount of 20 cents/l for the same period. pic.twitter.com/u7EdYWGliB

No discount
But the latter still categorically refuses to introduce a discount, claiming that distributors should take measures to reduce the mark-up and the displayed prices. Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, spoke on the subject to France Info and once again asked TotalEnergies to make an effort. In fact, he explains that “ I hope that TotalEnergies, which has committed to capping the price of all fuel, diesel and petrol, at €1.99 by the end of the year, will continue with this cap. after December 31, 2023 […] TotalEnergies is the only large French oil tanker what we have left should be an asset“.
An elongated cap?
The French company actually announced cincrease the price limit all types of fuel at their service stations for 1.99 euros per liter until the end of the year. But the authorities want even more, and the latter does not want to make the slightest gesture for motorists. The latter, however, are asking providing assistance, which would cost the government too much according to policy. For his part, Bruno Le Maire explains that he does not want ” to pay for the oil diplomacy of Mr. (Vladimir) Putin and Saudi Arabia“.
