Porsche fell on hard times in the mid-1990s. After the discontinuation of the 928 and 968 models in 1995, only the 911 (type 993) remained in the catalog, released in 1993, intended for the wealthy. There is an urgent need to make the brand more accessible, in a way representing an entry-level model than the 911. Here’s how Boxster was born, which was released in 1996. A contraction of “Boxer” and “Roadster”, it reconciles, as the name implies, the “paw” of Porsche flat six engines (called Boxer), with a body compact roadster. Smaller, more energy-efficient and more comfortable in everyday life than the 911, Boxster will be a real hitfor success that continues today.
Commercial box despite criticism
But in the eyes of some purists, the Boxster, like the Cayman, is a “sub-Porsche.” Like the front-engined Porsches of that time (924, 944, 928 and 968). Tradition holds that the only Porsche is the 911, designed and built for pure performance. No offense to them, the little Boxster has just as much right to wear the Porsche badge as its big sister. Especially since it also inherited the six-cylinder flat engine located in the central rear position. Finally! A new battle in this Boxster/911 duel: a body kit that allows you to replace your Boxster 986 with a 911. The whole program…
A real Porsche, a fake 911
It Slovak body manufacturer Hederik Design who created it He designed body shell which will be fitted to the 986 series. This requires removing the almond-shaped headlights and taillights and replacing them with inserts that mimic those of the 1960s 911s, as well as a special spoiler and special air grilles. Aboard, seats and steering wheel are new, and covered with orange Alcantara, reminiscent of the exterior livery. In order to be able to drive this 986 with fake 911 looks, there are a few conditions. There is already a Boxster that costs a minimum 15,000 euros used. Buy a set, an invoice of 9,990 euros was issued, and then install and paint in the color of your choice. Hell of an investment!
