BMW does not stop presenting armored versions of its various models. After the i7 electric sedan, the turn has come X5 to use a variant capable of withstanding any bullet impact. To make the Bavarian SUV so stable, BMW made (very) numerous modifications. However, they are practically invisible from the outside and even inside the car.
Additional shielding
Called Protection VR6, It X5 equipped with armored glass can even resist explosive attacks as an option. Almost its entire body is made of high-strength steel. Material that can be found on the doors, roof and even the trunk! The latter is also separated from the rest of the cabin by an armored partition. The base was also strengthened and can even benefit from additional additional shielding in the same way as a roof.
A bulletproof intercom and a tank
Not satisfied with the protection this X5 Protection VR6 also has a tank a little special The latter actually self-sealing. It has a special compartment that closes automatically after piercing. The result is evenbut if a bullet hits it, it doesn’t lose a single drop of fuel. Another unlikely option added to the German SUV: an internal communication system for communicating with people outside the car.
V8 with a capacity of 530 hp. and 750 Nm
To keep moving easily despite the considerable extra equipment, this BMW X5 received some mechanical changes. Its chassis was originally specially modified for the occasion. It also has bigger brakes and 4-wheel steering. Under its hood lies a Mild hybrid V8 developing 390 kW (530 hp) and 750 Nm of torque. This allows it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h. The first examples of this X5 Protection VR6 will be delivered from February 2024. And while BMW won’t reveal its price, we don’t think this armored SUV is worth giving away given the plethora of extras it packs. However, we must admit that security is priceless!
