Tesla Cybertruck: record number of pre-orders Auto Plus news in your smartphone Auto Plus news in your inbox

On average, close 1000 pre-orders per day for the last two yearsthis electric behemoth has maintained a pretty impressive level of popularity since its announcement in 2019. In July 2023 the Californian firm had at least two million bookings.

Although its unique design, marked by bold angles and geometric cutouts, divides opinion, the Cybertruck has managed to attract attention and arouse the interest of customers. Data provided by financial analytics platform Finbold showed that the exact number of bookings was 1,943,876.

A reservation does not mean an order

Compared to May 2021, when there were already 1,084,200 pre-orders, these current figures represent a rapid increase of almost 80%. This positive trend is also confirmed by Tesla’s delivery figures for 2022, when the company for the first time crossed the milestone of one million electric vehicles delivered worldwide. for a total of exactly 1,313,851 units.

However, it is important to remain cautious about these staggering numbers. Experience shows that reservations do not always translate into concrete sales. Moreover, to pay between $40,000 and $50,000 affording this electric pickup is not for all consumers who book the car first.

Inevitable commercialization?

The Cybertruck presents itself as a break with the conventions of standard pickup trucks, which contributes a lot to its media buzz. Its impressive features, such as the estimated battery life 800 kilometers and a towing capacity ranging from 3,400 to 6,300 kilograms allows it to compete with the best models in the category.

As for Cybertruck production, after much speculation and uncertainty, there are encouraging signs that production has finally begun. Nine Cybertruck models were spotted on trucks heading to the Tesla factory in Fremont, California.

This factory, located near Tesla’s headquarters in Palo Alto, is also responsible for the production of models such as Model S, Model 3 and Model Y. However, it remains a mystery whether these are pre-production prototypes or production models.
