On most new cars has been used instead of a spare for a long time. How does the puncture repair kit work and what are its limitations? Of course, it will never replace a real spare, but it should be able to do help you in most cases…It consists of two parts: electric compressor connection to the cigarette lighter. AND bottle with sealant (usually latex and water-based putty). When the tire is deflated, the cylinder is connected to the compressor and the compressor to the valve. The compressor sprays the product, which settles on the inside of the tire. Then you should drive a few kilometers at low speed to distribute the product evenly in the tire.

A good alternative to a spare wheel? Yes but…

Finally we perform final inflation with a compressor, to ensure that the leak has been sealed. If manufacturers favor a puncture repair kit over a spare tire, it’s because it is less heavy, and less bulky! But, like a “cake” wheel, the kit allows only temporary repairs: the speed should not exceed 80 km/h and repair or replace the tire immediately. In addition, the kit will be useless in the event of a flat tire or if the opening in the envelope is too large (more than 5 mm). Finally, the vulcanizing product tends to settle on the inside of the rims, so they need to be cleaned.

Nothing beats the good old fashioned method…

Puncture repair kits are available useful tools have in your car in case of an emergency. But they have their limits and is not not intended to replace professional tire repair. They help you drive safely after a minor puncture until you can properly repair the tire… Eventually, spare wheel (except for the plate) is definitely heavier, bulkier and more technical to install, but at least it has benefits once installed let go of your worries…
