It’s a new body that Tesla could do without. The American manufacturer announced this on Friday the personal information of 75,735 of its employees was recently compromised.

According to the company’s statements, two former employees are responsible for this major leak, violating Tesla’s IT security and data protection policies. This is reported in a complaint filed with the state attorney of the state of Maine, USA.

The leak of production secrets

Tesla’s privacy officer discovered that these former employees allegedly illegally obtained this data and released it to a news organization.

The compromised data allegedly contained sensitive information such as phone numbers, addresses and email addresses of 75,735 employees, as well as company manufacturing secrets. Such data was published by the German economic newspaper Handelsblatt, who apparently undertook not to disclose or use them.

The scale of this data breach raises serious concerns about the safety of Tesla employees, as well as the protection of the company’s confidential information. Exposed data could potentially be used for malicious purposes, putting the privacy and security of affected employees at risk.

Not the first time for Tesla

This is not the first time Tesla has faced data security issues. Back in May, there were already leaks, including customer complaints about the automaker’s vehicles and self-driving software. Dubbed the Tesla Files, this information contained 100 gigabytes of sensitive data, including Elon Musk’s social security number.

Tesla filed lawsuits against two former employees suspected of orchestrating the leak. In addition, US courts have issued an injunction that prohibits former employees of the company from manipulating or disseminating confidential data under penalty of severe criminal penalties.
