Electric car: city cars

Spring Dacia is the most affordable electric car, starting at €20,800: in its new Extreme trim, it takes care of its appearance with colored inserts. Even though the Spring adopts recalibrated steering and new dampers, its body roll remains significant and its braking downright ineffective. Therefore, we will prefer national roads and learn a “comfortable” driving style. But at this still “discounted” price, it’s hard to be picky!

there Fiat 500 The electric remains a good choice for urban use, but is penalized by less space in the back and its average range of 145 km (170 km city range) in the small battery version, which will suffice as a second car, the “big battery” version. (263 km) is much more expensive. Pleasant interior, safe handling, pleasant liveliness around town, but be careful with the damping, which remains too firm.

New Jeep Avengers this is the first electric car of the American brand with its pleasant appearance and compact dimensions. Avenger stands out with an average range of 330 km and up to 380 km in the city. Manoeuvrable, comfortable and attractively presented, it’s also well equipped. But its viability is limited, and the trunk is small.

sedans

there MG4 — the cheapest electric compact (from 29,990 euros). It offers a very accurate range (340 km on average, 275 km on the highway), as well as real driving pleasure, performance at the workplace (204 hp), full Luxury equipment and a high level of comfort. Of course, not everything is perfect: the finish is just right, the ergonomics lack clarity, the menu of the multimedia system is a fun mess, and the trunk is quite narrow for the category. But the price (compared to competitors, of course) can only lead to indulgence…

there Renault Megane E-Tech it is a completely new electric car, be it in terms of exterior styling or interior, very well finished and equipped with state-of-the-art, high-performance and intuitive digital interfaces. In the EV60 version with a capacity of 218 hp. it guarantees good performance and an average range of 350 km (300 km on the highway). Enough to give it real versatility, especially since it offers a great compromise between comfort and stability on the road. However, the rear seats are a bit cramped and the prices, although slightly reduced, remain high (from €38,000)…

With a lower starting price (from €41,990), Tesla Model 3 the range is again eligible for a bonus and is displayed at the price of the Megane E-Tech in high performance! Despite the relatively small battery (57 kWh), the average range is 395 km (335 km hwy) thanks to excellent efficiency. This makes this Model 3 Propulsion a roadworthy car, especially as it can charge at 170kW and benefits from an extensive network of Superchargers. Excellent performance, dynamic handling, capacity and generous equipment. The only minus: hard suspensions.

SUVs

In addition to the unusual appearance, Kia Niro EV is distinguished by an excellent size/suitability ratio. Its trunk, in particular, is very large (482 dm3). Its presentation is also very successful, and cozy sound insulation and soft suspensions invite you to travel. In this regard, however, we must note that if the autonomy is correct, fast charging, limited to 77 kW, will require waiting three quarters of an hour to charge from 10 to 80%. In addition, the Niro EV lacks dynamism. As for the 7-year warranty, it allows you to forgive the high prices (from 45,640 euros).

THE Hyundai Ioniq 5, this is first of all a hellish “face”, directly inspired by the concept car! It’s also a well-designed interior (clean design, XXL screens) and particularly spacious. We especially appreciate its comfortable seats, as well as the sliding seat that provides additional modularity. On the road, this cocooning tendency is confirmed with soft suspension and calm handling, if not the lumpiest in the category. The 77 kWh version combines a large battery with a “small” motor, which provides adequate autonomy, although slightly limited on the highway (280 km). Fortunately, its 800-volt battery supports up to 232 kW of charging power, which can go from 10 to 80% in just 18 minutes! Unfortunately, despite small discounts, prices remain high (from €51,400) and deprive this model of a bonus.

THE Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV mainly distinguished by a more inclined rear window and slightly richer equipment (fixed panoramic glass roof as standard) than the Skoda Enyaq iV. Usability, excellent, does not change, as does the capacious trunk. We also appreciate the neat interior design and better ergonomics than its cousin the Volkswagen ID.5. On the road, the petals on the steering wheel allow you to adjust energy recovery, and the comfortable autonomy (440 km on average) allows you to see ahead. Approval and comfort at the appropriate level. But rear visibility is very limited.
