A few weeks after the presentation of the coupe, Aston Martin presents a convertible version in the purest tradition of English convertibles, with a canvas roof and an exciting line.

Like the DB12 coupe, it can be called a masterpiece only on an aesthetic level. Engineers focused almost all of their attention on the roof, which bears the sweet-sounding name “K-fold” because of its somewhat special opening kinematics in two stages, which limits its dimensions.

Equipped with eight layers of insulation, it promises excellent sound isolation when unfolded, while when folded it occupies a compartment hidden by a metal partition that helps maintain a clean line.

The roof opens in 14 seconds and closes in 16 seconds. It can operate at a speed of up to 50 km/h. Four fabric colors are available: black, standard color, red, blue and “black and silver”.

Technologies are (finally) updated

The passenger compartment of the DB12 features Aston Martin’s signature elegance with upholstery crafted by the brand’s craftsmen and fully customizable thanks to the Q by Aston Martin program.

Among the novelties, we find an infotainment system of our own production and no longer borrowed from Mercedes. It is based on a 10.25-inch touchscreen, and it allows you to control, among other things, the air conditioner, car settings or driving modes.

Indeed, like any self-respecting sports car, the DB12 has several driving modes (GT, Sport, Sport+, Wet and Individual). On the Aston Martin DB12, ESP can be adjusted according to three configurations (Wet, On Track & Off) to change the intervention of the stability control system according to climatic conditions or driving style.

Just as effective

Under the hood we find a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 680 hp and 800 Nm. The indicators are almost the same as in the coupe, from 0 to 100 km/h. 3.6 seconds and maximum speed 325 km/h.

According to the engineers, the dynamic behavior of the DB12 Volante is like that of a real sports car thanks to its aluminum construction and all the reinforcements used to ensure excellent torsional rigidity. Development was also carried out in parallel with the development of the DB12 Coupé.

The V8 is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and, for the first time in DB history, an electronic limited-slip rear differential. Among other things, the transmission itself was completely redesigned, with a shorter gear ratio.

Prices have yet to be officially confirmed, but knowing that the DB12 coupe starts at around €240,000, a small increase can be expected.
